Description : Only 2km away from the historic town of Swellendam directly alongside the N2; en-route to Cape Town and the Garden Route, you will find the Blue Mountain Inn (Ranch). Here you can relax and enjoy the beautiful mountain views. We have ten rooms. Every room has a double bed and single bed or double bunk en-suite shower and toilet. There are coffee making facilities in the rooms. Weather permitting breakfast can be served on the deck which faces the river. After an exciting day exploring the local district enjoy the braai facilities on the river bank. Ample off-road parking available. Groups welcome
After Cape Town and Stellenbosch, Swellendam was the third settlement to be founded by the Dutch East India Company. Visitors will find all the historical information about the town, at the Swellendam Museum which is housed in the old Drostdy, a national monument.
At the nearby Marloth Nature Reserve one may enjoy activities such as walking, climbing and horse riding.
Boat trips can be arranged on the Breede River as well as on the Buffeljachts Dam where there is a 'fuffi-slide' some 40 metres high and 200 metres long.
The Bontebok National Park is situated across the national road (N2) from us, with the entrance approximately 6 kilometers from town.
On a day trip to Witsand during the months May to November the visitor is bound to experience the thrill of seeing whales at play in St. Sebastian Bay where large numbers of the Southern Right Whale come to calve each year.
The only way to cross the Breede River at Malagas, is by way of the only manually operated pontoon (ferry) in South Africa.
Other day trips could take the visitor to Ostrich Farms at Witsand; or a beautiful trip through the wine farms of Bonnievale, Robertson and Montagu, On a separate day trip to Montagu experience an exciting tractor ride onto the mountain top; then enjoy a traditional 'potjiekos' meal afterwards. Or take a drive through the Tradouw Pass to Barrydale and the famous route R62.
On a trip to Cape Agulhas; the southernmost tip of Africa, enjoy the rolling grain fields and rural atmosphere.
Top it all by taking a light aircraft trip over the whole area!
